Founded in April 1957, School of Clinical Medicine (Luohu) is located in the bustling commercial district of Luohu and borders Hong Kong. With over 60 years of development and accumulation, it has evolved into a modern Grade A Tertiary General Hospital integrating medical services, teaching, scientific research, disease prevention, healthcare and rehabilitation, featuring comprehensive disciplines, advanced facilities and strong professional expertise.
The hospital was officially upgraded to a Grade A Tertiary Hospital in November 2017. In March 2019, it was designated as the Guangdong Provincial Training Base for Specialist Midwifery Nurses; in September, it obtained the practicing license for prenatal diagnostic technical services; in October, its Medical Laboratory was accredited in compliance with the ISO 15189 international standard, and it was certified as a National Drug Clinical Trial Institution (GCP). In September 2020, it passed the certification of China Grassroots Chest Pain Center; in December, it was accredited as a National Standardized Residency Training Base (General Practice). In August 2021, it became the Shenzhen Verification Base for Innovative COVID-19 Detection Technologies and Products; in November, it was listed among the first batch of Guangdong Provincial Demonstration Institutions for Integrated Medical and Elderly Care Services. In August 2022, it obtained CNAS 17025 / CMA accreditation qualification. In January 2023, the Department of Urology was approved as a Guangdong Provincial Key Clinical Discipline Construction Project; in September, it passed the re-evaluation of Grade A Tertiary General Hospital; in October, it was authorized as a National Advanced Cognitive Disorder Diagnosis and Treatment Center and awarded the title of Shenzhen Elderly-Friendly Medical Institution; in November, the Geriatric Branch was rated as a Four-Star Integrated Medical and Elderly Care Institution of Shenzhen. In January 2024, the Department of General Practice was approved as a Guangdong Provincial Key Clinical Discipline Construction Project.
The hospital currently comprises three campuses (Jiabin Campus, Chunfeng Campus and Qingshuihe Campus), one Geriatric Branch (Luohu Integrated Medical and Elderly Care Hospital), and one research institute (Shenzhen Zhongxun Institute of Precision Medicine), the first specialized precision medicine research institute in China. It has 1,075 authorized inpatient beds, with 48 clinical departments, 10 medical technology and auxiliary departments, and 21 administrative functional departments. The hospital employs a total of 2,468 staff members, including 105 senior professors, 224 associate senior professionals, 113 doctoral degree holders and 494 master’s degree holders. Among them, there are 12 doctoral supervisors, 59 master’s supervisors and 16 postdoctoral co-supervisors. The faculty includes 1 expert enjoying the Special Government Allowance of the State Council, 2 recipients of the Shenzhen Municipal Special Government Allowance, 16 certified overseas high-level talents, 15 Shenzhen high-level talents and 4 specially appointed Shenzhen position experts. A total of 10 high-level medical teams have been introduced under the municipal “Three Talents Project”, including 6 academician-led teams. Equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities such as the Stereotactic Gamma Knife Radiotherapy System, the 4th-generation Xi Da Vinci Surgical Robot, and the Elekta Infinity Medical Linear Accelerator, the hospital features top-grade laminar flow operating rooms capable of performing all types of surgical procedures.
At present, the hospital hosts 3 Guangdong Provincial Key Clinical Discipline Construction Projects (Urology, General Practice, Medical Laboratory Science), 3 Shenzhen Municipal Key Medical Disciplines (Urology, Medical Laboratory Science, General Practice), 1 Shenzhen Municipal TCM Characteristic Specialty (TCM Pulmonology), and 1 Shenzhen Municipal Key Laboratory (Key Laboratory of Trace Intelligent Clinical Application). It also has 7 Luohu District Key Disciplines (Laboratories) and 1 Key Discipline Construction Unit at the district level. The hospital boasts a number of distinctive disciplines. The Reproductive Medicine Department took the lead in fully launching assisted reproductive technology in Shenzhen as early as 1998. It successfully delivered Shenzhen’s first test-tube baby conceived via in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET), the first via intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), the first frozen embryo test-tube baby, and the first preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) test-tube baby. In 2014, it achieved the birth of Guangdong’s first “triple-frozen” test-tube baby, placing its assisted reproductive cryopreservation technology at the world’s top level. The innovative surgical technique Laparoscopic Peritoneal Vaginal Plasty — Luohu Procedure developed by the Department of Gynecology has reached an internationally leading level in the treatment of congenital vaginal agenesis. It has been awarded the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Award and the First Prize of the Endoscopic Medical Science and Technology Award, the highest honor of the Chinese Endoscopic Physicians Association.
