ZhanQi Hu/ Department of Pediatrics, Associate Chief Physician

Zhanqi Hu, Associate Chief Physician and Ph.D. in Medical, completed his postdoctoral training at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hu is also a Master’s Supervisor. With nearly 20 years of clinical, research and teaching experience in pediatrics, his research focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric neurological diseases, neurodevelopmental assessment, and early intervention therapy.

Dr. Hu formerly served as Associate Chief Physician of the Neurology Department at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital and Secretary of the Pediatric Neurology Expert Team under Shenzhen’s “Three Talents Project” led by Academician Ingrid Scheffer from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is a Medical Backbone Talent under the Elite Talent Program of Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission and a Guest Associate Researcher at Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From August 2021 to January 2022, Dr. Hu received advanced training in artificial intelligence technology and epileptic focus localization at Tsinghua University Yuquan Hospital. In October 2018, he undertook a one-month academic visit at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. He led the completion of the international cooperative project on the development of the Simplified Chinese version of the TAND Assessment Scale for children with tuberous sclerosis complex. Dr. Hu has participated in 2 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 3 provincial and ministerial research projects, and presided over or joined 4 municipal research projects, with 2 authorized invention patents to his credit. He has long been dedicated to localizing epileptogenic foci caused by tuberous sclerosis complex and exploring the mechanisms underlying intractable epilepsy. By applying multimodal data and artificial intelligence machine learning algorithms, he has established an early prognostic assessment model for seizure outcomes in children with tuberous sclerosis complex. He has published over 30 journal papers (including those in Brain and AJNR), 3 international conference papers (presented at the 2023 American Epilepsy Society Annual Meeting), and authored 2 academic monographs.

Dr. Hu is proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of common, frequently-occurring, complicated and critical pediatric diseases, with specialized expertise in pediatric neurological disorders including dizziness, headache, epilepsy, encephalitis, tic disorders, and tuberous sclerosis complex.
