SIAT won five Shenzhen Science and Technology Awards

01 Jul 2021 News Update

On January 6th, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences won five Shenzhen Science and Technology Awards Ceremony, SIAT has won this awards for the eighth year in a row.

The five prizes include a first and a second prize in the Natural Science Award, a first prize in the Technology Progress Award, a second prize in the Technological Invention Award, and a Youth Science and Technology Award.

Prof. CAI Lintao, the director of the Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, won the first prize in the Natural Science Award as the project leader of ‘Basic Research of Optical Precision Diagnosis and Treatment based on Mimicking Nano-delivery System’. This project took the lead in the construction of a series of biomimicking active nano-delivery systems for tumor precision therapy, such as biomembrane and active protein. He is the first one to propose the concept of ‘Curing cancer with tumor cell’ usingbiomembrane mimicking technique, and developed the optical tracking and intervention strategies based on ‘artificial red blood cells’ and ‘albumin’ bionic delivery system, which provide a theoretical basis for accurate diagnosis and treatment for tumor. Meanwhile, his team is also the first one to develop the technology of nondestructive metabolic labeling and artificial chemical receptor, providing an important technical support for optical precision treatment of infectious diseases or cancer. This study is an original breakthrough in biomimetic nanomaterials and delivery system, it significantly improved material biocompatibility and drug effectiveness, thereby providing important theoretical basis and key technologies for biomimetic active nanomaterials in the research of precise diagnosis and personalized treatment of cancer.

Prof. LI Huiyun, deputy director of the Institute of Advanced Integration Technology, won the first prize of Technology Progress Award (Technology Development Category) as the first accomplishment of the project “Development and application of security design and evaluation technology of cryptographic chip”. The security technology of cryptographic chip is the key in the field of information security, and also one of the bottleneck technologies in China. The project team made technical breakthroughs in security design, vulnerability detection and security evaluation, which solved the problem of low security test efficiency and easy misdetection and omission of detection under fault injection attack. Some of the core technologies have been used in the development of Internet of Things chips such as security integrated card, information machine, security MCU, etc., and have achieved good industrial application results in consumer electronics, smart homes, medical facilities, industrial interconnection and other fields.

Prof. LAI Yuxiao, executive director of the Center for Translational Medicine Research and Development, won the second prize of Technological Invention Award as the first author for outstanding contribution to the key technologies and applications of biomaterial 3D printing in the field of orthopedics. In the past ten years, the team of Professor Ling Qin and Yuxiao Lai overcomes several technical difficulties in the field of biomaterial 3D printing technology. The team solves the challenge of multi-material and multi-parameter integrated control, and successfully manufactures 3D printed orthopedic apparatus integrating material-structure-function & activity.Meanwhile, they endowthe comprehensive performance of “customization ” and “functionalization” to orthopedic apparatus. Up to now, the team has conducted clinical research and applied these technologies in more than 10 hospitals nationwide, providing significant approaches for the treatment and rehabilitation of orthopedic diseases, such as trauma, bone tumor and osteonecrosis.

Dr. MENG Long, the professor of Paul C. Lauterbur Research Center for Biomedical Imaging in the Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology, won the Youth Science and Technology Award. His research interest focuses on the acoustic manipulation. He has developed the arbitrary acoustic field based on phase-shift method and verified the establishment of the acoustic field in the complex medium. A specific acoustic sorting technology is developed and precise manipulation of bioparticles has been realized. As the owner of several patents, Dr. Meng’s work shows great promise in the industrialization of acoustic manipulation.
