An Ecological Scroll of Mountains and Waters in Harmony #Lili Campus Tour#
Stepping into the SUAT campus
feels like entering a beautiful scroll painting of natural mountains and waters
Here, mountains and waters embrace each other
with nature as the scenery
Residential colleges nestle against the mountains
Academic and research buildings surround the lake
perfectly blending with the surrounding natural environment
like a gentle gift from nature
The Central Lake Park is a pearl of the campus. On the lake surface, your little friends—the black swans—occasionally patrol this shimmering territory; sometimes a waterbird flies over, breaking the tranquility of the water. Along the dry creek, gurgling water flows over pebbles of various sizes, purifying and circulating the water, adding vitality and beauty to the campus. This water body is a lake landscape formed by the campus design team transforming the Luozai Pit mountain pond, which originally served flood discharge functions. It not only creates a beautiful lake on campus but also allows water resource reuse, effectively collecting and purifying rainwater, demonstrating the campus's role as part of a sponge city.

On campus, the plant ecosystem composed of native trees and special grasses makes it feel like a vibrant forest; walking through it, fresh air rushes toward you, and abundant negative ions bring physical and mental pleasure. In the trees, birds sing joyfully, as if welcoming every visitor.
The construction of this pioneering ecological campus has quite a background—it was organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Construction Works Department and welcomed its first undergraduates last August. Located in Xinhu Street, Guangming District, with a total building area of approximately 562,000 square meters, it neighbors Sun Yat-sen University (Shenzhen Campus) and Weiguang Biological Park to the west, and closely adjoins Guangming Forest Park to the east—an exceptionally advantageous location. The entire campus adopts the design concept of "Encoding Nature," divided into six compact, multifunctional clusters that maximize preservation of the natural base while meeting campus functions, truly achieving harmonious coexistence between architecture and nature.

Unique Architectural Features #Lili Campus Tour#
From an aerial view
the buildings on the SUAT campus
are distributed in the shape of the Big Dipper
named respectively
"Yaoguang, Kaiyang, Yuheng, Tianquan,
Tianji, Tianxuan, Tianshu"
with profound meaning
constantly reminding students in university studies and life
to find their own direction and goals
and keep moving forward

Guangming Main Campus
Climbing Tianxuan Building for a distant view, the west side along the street features public buildings like Tianji Exchange Center, Tianji Library, and Kaiyang Gymnasium. These buildings not only serve faculty and students but also facilitate public access, becoming important community shared facilities, fully embodying SUAT's open and convenient educational philosophy and creating a new campus closely connected to the city. Teaching and living clusters are laid out near mountain views, away from urban noise, creating a serene and focused learning environment for students to calm down and immerse in the ocean of knowledge.

On the east side, the 1.4-kilometer-long covered walkway acts like a long ribbon connecting the entire campus, closely linking learning, research, and living areas, forming an efficient "five-minute walking circle" between clusters and greatly improving campus life convenience. Meanwhile, the walkway roof is covered with 7,800 square meters of monocrystalline silicon photovoltaics; through integrated design of photovoltaics and walkway, it shelters faculty and students from wind and rain while generating electricity to save campus energy consumption, building a low-carbon energy loop for the campus. The first-year generation is expected to reach 1.18 million kWh, usable for parking lots, campus street lighting, etc., contributing to energy saving and environmental protection.
Every nightfall, the lights on the covered walkway illuminate accordingly. Many involved in SUAT construction imagine this scene: On Earth Day each year, lights across the campus and city gradually extinguish; this LOOP ring, lit by collected solar power, viewed from the sky, resembles a low-carbon halo encircling the campus. This romantic metaphor also highlights SUAT's pioneering attitude in ecological energy saving.

Vibrant Learning and Living Spaces #Lili Campus Tour#

The campus also gathers diverse indoor and outdoor sports facilities, including professional basketball halls, 16 standard badminton courts capable of hosting international events, an 800-meter standard track field, and a "viral infinity pool," meeting students' varied exercise needs.

In addition, SUAT's library is unique. The library is committed to building an innovative public cultural space in the Greater Bay Area and is the first in China to propose the "fourth-generation (4D) library" concept. Its construction philosophy breaks traditional library physical and functional boundaries, centered on the "4D function system (Deposit for collection, Do reading for reading, Display for exhibitions, DIY for hands-on creation)," integrating library, exhibition hall, and museum to build a composite public cultural space combining knowledge hub, innovation workshop, and humanistic living room, actively constructing a bidirectional empowerment model of "socializing academic resources and academicizing social resources" to create an important cultural node in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The library holds a total of 100,000 Chinese and foreign paper books, 92,000 electronic books, 76 Chinese and foreign periodicals, and 50 Chinese and foreign databases. It is not just an information source but also industrial energy, empowering students and readers to engage in creative social practices.
