Here, innovative thinking collides with precision instruments; students enter labs for research practice from freshman year. Labs carrying unlimited possibilities are becoming the "battlefield" for Generation Z to explore the unknown.

Fertile Soil for Research: Exploring the Lab Matrix

SUAT's laboratories provide a solid foundation for research work. Currently, the university has built laboratories for the College of Computing Science and Control Engineering, College of Materials Science and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Synthetic Biology, College of Life and Health Sciences, College of Computing Power Microelectronics, and College of Pharmacy, totaling nearly 15,000 square meters, covering the Robot and Intelligent Equipment Experiment Center, Computing Power Chip Design Lab, Intelligence and Behavior Intersection Research Center, Medical Imaging Center, Materials Smart Workshop, etc., providing broad research space for faculty and students of different majors and meeting diversified research needs from basic research to application development.

In labs, equipment like integrated circuit testers, industrial robots, FPV drones, fully automatic molecular luminescence bioimmunoassay analyzers, fully automatic cell sorters, brain electrical impedance tomography imagers, and transcranial Doppler blood flow analyzers are complete; they play huge roles in researchers' hands, helping overcome research difficulties and promoting continuous progress in science and technology.

Talent Cultivation Model: Integrating Research into University Life

Laboratories are not only cradles of research innovation but also fertile soil for student growth. SUAT implements"4+1" teaching: starting from freshman year, students attend classes Monday to Thursday and rotate through labs in different major directions for research practice on Fridays, laying the foundation for sophomore major choice; in junior year, divided into academic, engineering, and entrepreneurship tracks for elite undergraduate education, cultivating top innovative talents in a new model.

This model makes academic exploration accessible from freshman year; students enter labs in six frontier directions like synthetic biology, brain science, and chip design for rotations, contacting frontier technology, participating in projects, exercising research abilities, and opening unlimited possibilities for future development.

Currently, SUAT has jointly established the "Intelligent Acoustics Innovation Joint Laboratory" with Lenovo Information Products (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and Audfly Technology (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., focusing on cultivating characteristic talents in intelligent acoustics and desktop computing R&D. In addition, multiple incubators and industrial parks led by the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, such as the Shenzhen Industrial Innovation Center for Engineering Biology and the Shenzhen Brain Science and Technology Industrial Innovation Center, provide students with "training grounds" for applying theoretical knowledge to practice.

In the 16th "Lanqiao Cup" National Software and Information Technology Professional Talent Competition Guangdong Province Division, SUAT first-year student Li Honghao, with solid professional foundation and excellent engineering ability, won first prize in Guangdong and advanced to the national finals. Although participating students were all first-time competitors, they achieved impressive results with practical experience accumulated during lab rotations far exceeding peers. Previously, first-year student Tang Pengfei won third prize in the individual competition of the "Hua Da Jiutian Cup" Electronic Design and Engineering Practice Invitational, winning a provincial award as a freshman.

Achievement Incubation: From Labs to Innovation Highlands

SUAT's laboratories are not only "training grounds" but also "achievement incubators."

The nationally pioneering"innovation upstairs, entrepreneurship downstairs" ecosystem model lets scientists "go downstairs" with technology and entrepreneurs "go upstairs" with needs, achieving seamless docking between labs and industrial demands. Through this model, SUAT not only achieves hardcore equipment and impressive results but also targets international academic frontiers and closely aligns with industrial needs.

To promote industrialization of research achievements, support student personalized development, and improve the university's "track division cultivation" (academic, engineering, entrepreneurship tracks) ecosystem, SUAT held theSUAT Tech-Talk series research achievement release conferences. Letting SUAT students participate, engaging in industrial practice during early academic enlightenment while conducting research in labs, understanding technology landing challenges earlier, intuitively feeling the full chain from R&D to application, planting a seed for future innovation practice with industrial enlightenment experiences. This event also builds open platforms and links enterprise resources to push more research achievements from "labs" to "production lines."
