The Medical Device Research Institute is jointly built by SUAT and the National Innovation Center for High-Performance Medical Devices (hereinafter referred to as the "National Innovation Center"). It serves as the main entity for applied basic research and key technology R&D in biomedical engineering at SUAT and will bedeveloped into a national-level innovative talent cultivation base, a supporting force for first-class discipline construction, and an important platform for technological innovation and industrial translation.

The research institute is an important base for SUAT to cultivate interdisciplinary composite talents, primarily planned and built around national strategic needs and Shenzhen's "20+8" industrial cluster policy. SUAT has previously established the Institute of Cell and Gene Technology, the Future Agriculture Research Institute, and the Higher Education Research Institute. In the future, it will build a batch of new-type research institutes such as the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute and the Intelligent Robotics Research Institute, implementing institutionalized and organized research to promote scientific research and technological innovation, and cultivate top innovative talents to meet the needs of developing new quality productive forces.

SUAT President Fan Jianping stated thatjointly building the Medical Device Research Institute is an important measure for the university to practice the concept of "integration of industry and education as well as science and education." SUAT will fully leverage its advantages in education and research, achieve complementary strengths and resource sharing with the shareholders of the National Innovation Center, promote win-win development for both parties, jointly build an internationally influential highland for medical device innovation, and provide solid talent and core technology support for the development of the national high-performance medical device industry. "We hope the Medical Device Research Institute can become a primary platform for undergraduate internships and graduate training, as well as an important window for SUAT to connect with medical device enterprises and a key channel for industrializing the university's scientific and technological achievements. "

Zheng Hairong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the National Innovation Center, and Vice President of Nanjing University, pointed out that the medical device industry is a national strategic emerging industry, of great significance for improving China's medical and health levels and safeguarding people's health.The National Innovation Center will closely cooperate with SUAT to cultivate high-quality innovative talents and help achieve high-quality development of China's medical device industry."In the future, the Medical Device Research Institute will focus on key areas such as imaging diagnostic technology, artificial intelligence medical devices, and functional medical materials, problem-oriented to assist in cultivating top innovative talents. "

Yang Fan, Assistant to the President of SUAT, and Liu Xin, Chairman of the National Innovation Center, signed a framework agreement for jointly building the Medical Device Research Institute, with both parties engaging in in-depth cooperation in education, technology, industry, and talent.
